At KAWS, We believe that not just any home is good enough. We carefully review every adoption to make sure our animals go to healthy, safe, and loving homes.
Our dogs and puppies are ready for adoption and waiting for their forever homes.
Adopting a rescued cat changes your life and opens a space for another cat in need.
Our trained matchmakers will guide you through the process and share what they know about the animal to help ensure the best possible match for both you and your new companion.
Finding the right match takes time. For dog adoptions, any existing dogs and/or children in the household will need to meet the adoptable dog to ensure compatibility.
Once you’ve chosen your new family member, complete the application form. KAWS will arrange a home check to ensure your home is a safe and suitable match.
By adopting, you are giving a second chance to an animal in need while helping to reduce overpopulation, neglect, and abuse. Adoption also frees up space at the shelter so we can rescue more animals from the Knysna community.
Our adoption process includes an application form, an interview or discussion, and a home check where necessary. This ensures that each animal is placed in a safe, loving, and suitable forever home.
Yes. All animals adopted from KAWS are sterilised (age and health permitting), vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for parasites. This helps prevent unwanted litters and promotes long-term health.
R800. Adoption fees help cover a portion of the veterinary care, food, and shelter provided to the animal. The fee is significantly less than purchasing a pet and contributes directly to saving more lives.
Our team will help match you with an animal based on your lifestyle, living environment, and experience with pets. We encourage adopters to spend time with animals at the shelter to find the best fit.
Yes, provided you have written permission from your landlord. Responsible pet ownership includes ensuring that pets are allowed and that the home is secure and suitable.
We understand that adjustments can take time. If challenges arise, KAWS is available to offer guidance and support. If an adoption truly cannot continue, the animal must be returned to KAWS so we can ensure their safety and wellbeing.
