Knysna Animal Welfare Society (KAWS) was first registered as a welfare organisation on 24 September 1951, and celebrates 75 years of caring for animals in the greater Knysna area in 2026.
Our mission is to promote the welfare of animals by preventing the overpopulation of dogs and cats; providing primary health care; taking in all strays and surrenders and finding homes for animals in our community.
We take in any stray, surrendered or confiscated domestic animals found in the Greater Knysna area.
We provide primary veterinary care, with a focus on sterilisation and vaccinations, to those who cannot afford a private vet.
Our inspectors and outreach team strives to reduce animal cruelty, suffering and neglect in our community.
Our adoptions are carefully placed into loving homes.
Thank you to our partners whose support makes our work possible.
Some animals struggle to cope in a shelter environment or need extended care. Foster homes provide these animals with the comfort, stability, and safety of a real home, even if only temporarily.
