Adoption Terms & Conditions

Adoption Terms & Conditions

By submitting an adoption application to Knysna Animal Welfare Society (KAWS), you acknowledge, understand, and agree to the following terms and conditions:

1. Animal Care & Welfare

You agree to:

  • Provide regular and appropriate healthcare for the adopted animal through a licensed private veterinarian.

  • Ensure that the adopted animal is kept safe at all times, to the best of your ability.

  • Ensure that the adopted animal wears an identification tag at all times.

  • Update all microchip registration details should your address or contact information change.

2. Inability to Keep the Animal

Should you no longer be able to keep the adopted animal for any reason, you agree to contact Knysna Animal Welfare Society immediately. The animal may not be rehomed, sold, or given away without the prior consent of KAWS.

3. Adoption Fees

You agree to:

  • Pay the adoption fee of R800 (eight hundred rand) before taking the dog to your home.

  • Acknowledge that the adoption fee is non-refundable after 7 (seven) days from the date of adoption.

4. Accuracy of Information

You confirm that:

  • All information provided in the adoption application is true, accurate, and complete, and is considered binding.

  • Any omission of information or failure to answer all required questions may result in the application being declined.

If an omission, misrepresentation, or untruth is discovered after adoption, you acknowledge that Knysna Animal Welfare Society reserves the right to annul the adoption and reclaim the animal, without any refund of the adoption fee.

5. Assessment & Home Inspection

You understand and agree that:

  • All adoption applications are subject to a review process.

  • If your application passes the initial review, you agree to a home and yard/garden inspection at a mutually agreed date and time, conducted by a KAWS inspector or volunteer, before the adoption decision is finalised.

6. Adoption Decision

You acknowledge that:

  • Adoption decisions are dependent on multiple factors, including but not limited to the compatibility of the animal with the applicant’s family, lifestyle, and home environment, as well as other applications received for the same animal.

  • Knysna Animal Welfare Society retains full discretion in determining the most suitable home for any animal in its care, and its decision is final.

7. Future Applications

Unless otherwise indicated by Knysna Animal Welfare Society, you remain free to apply and undergo the adoption application process again in the future.

8. Protection of Personal Information (POPIA)

You consent to Knysna Animal Welfare Society collecting, storing, and processing your personal information for purposes related to assessing and administering your adoption application, in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
Your information will be handled responsibly and will not be used for purposes unrelated to adoption without lawful justification.
