Walk a Dog
Join our team of dedicated dog walkers who exercise the kennel dogs each day. It takes an hour or two of your time and you get to meet like-minded people who also want to help KAWS in a practical way. You can walk just one day a week, or more if you are able to. It’s a double-sided benefit – the dogs enjoy their outing and change of scenery, and you get fit and can enjoy the outdoors as well as make the dogs’ lives happier. The human interaction and leash training also goes a long way to make them more ‘home-able’.
The dog-walking volunteers start at 0830 Monday to Saturday. All you need is a pair of comfortable shoes, we will provide the leads, treats (and dogs, of course).
Give Back
KAWS Charity Shop
Could you spare a few hours every week or two to help out at the KAWS charity shop in town? The KAWS Charity Shop in Market Street is a wonderful source of income for KAWS, raising huge amounts of money each year from donations received from the public. It is run by a team of 4 staff permanent staff and group of dedicated volunteers. They assist with collection, sorting and pricing of donations.
Teach them the basics
Train a Dog
We partner with Bianca from Happy Dogs on Tuesdays from 09h30 to 10h30 when we train our adoption dogs to prepare them for their forever homes. No previous experience is needed.
Purrfect time spend
Cuddle a Cat
Not a ‘dog person’ but enjoy being with cats? Our cattery is home to some beautiful felines who are all more than happy to be fussed, groomed and generally adored to make their days pass happily. An hour in the cattery, relaxing and cuddling kitties is better than any spa experience – and won’t cost you a cent.
Collect
Transport
Are you able to help with collecting and transporting donations to the KAWS charity shop? We are often contacted by people who are clearing out their houses and want to donate some of the contents to charity – we need to ensure that these goods are collected timeously from the donors. We would prefer not to utilize our inspectors for this job. If you have a suitable vehicle, please get in touch so we may call on you should we need any donations collected.
Raise Money
Fundraising
We have various fundraising events throughout the year, and often require extra hands to help us with ensuring these events are a success. One such event is our Street Collection, where volunteers shake a tin to raise money for the animals in our care. You will get a lot of satisfaction from feeling the tin get heavier as the money pours in. We have several other fundraising events where volunteers are needed. Please let us know if you are willing to help with any of these.
